sad news

We learned this morning that former Yarn Expressions employee and long time friend Edna Lighton died on Tuesday.  She recently had been diagnosed with ALS;  when I talked to her two weeks ago she was determined to fight this insidious disease with all her might.

Edna was one of the first people to walk into Yarn Expressions when it opened 14 years ago.  She often would show up on a Saturday afternoon to keep me company and ended up working with us for several years until her retirement in 2006.

Those of you who’ve spent time in our shop will remember her amazing ability to knit up beautiful sweaters in no time flat, her friendly manner that immediately put people at ease, and her willingness to help anyone fix a knitting problem on the spot.

The paper says the viewing will be on Friday at Laughlin Funeral Home.

    Meg,
I’m so sorry about Edna. I remembered you mentioning that she was ill on the last Spin Night.
So sad. I remember a pretty vest that she had knitted and was wearing in the shop. She was a very skilled knitter.
