Introducing, the Louet Victoria. As you can see, it comes with its own carrying case, takes almost no assembly and is absolutely adorable! I was up and spinning in 15 minutes. Come to Knit Night tonight and try it out. We have three, two beech and one oak (pictured).

an unexpected treat

It’s not often that we get new yarn in the store on Saturday. This morning I had a call from Susan, our rep for Schaefer Yarn, saying her husband was on his way in to town, and had a trunk full of yarn. Would I like to take a look? What do you think I said?many new colors of Anne sock yarn!

See what I found? We ended up with 21 new skeins of Anne, Schaefer’s very popular sock yarn, and all he had of their laceweight silk, Andrea.

yummy silk

Customers are circling the displays even as I type this. What a nice Saturday treat!

it’s been worth the wait

This is Savannah

Savannah DK

a lovely blend of merino wool, organic cotton, linen and soy fiber. I love the ode to this yarn written on their tag.

You have to come see this yarn to truly appreciate it. Pictures just don’t do justice. In the same UPS shipment we received the new Vogue Knitting (best issue I’ve seen in years) and a new felting book from Interweave called Felt Frenzy. It goes beyond knitting and felting, inclluding directions for wet felting, needle felting and some freeform stuff as well. Shannon Oakey strikes again!

It’s a good thing that it’s Knit Night tonight — you’ll have a chance to see these things up close and personal.

ahem…

My apologies to anyone who was inconvenienced by my knee-jerk reaction to last week’s weather forecast. I’ll try not to be so skittish next time, I promise.

On to the new stuff — our shipment from Classic Elite has arrived.

new goodies from Classic Elite new Classic Elite patterns new shades of Classic Silk

In the box are refills of old and new shades of Premiere, our favorite cotton/tencel blend; Classic Silk, just about the nicest silk blend yarn on the market today (read what Grumperina has to say about it); and a new summer cotton called Pebbles. If you remember Sand, this is a thinner version. Gently textured, easy on the hands. We haven’t done any playing with it yet, but it’s on the list.

Both Donna and I are making room in our knitting queue for the cabled beauty on the cover of Summertime Knits. Designed by Kathy Zimmerman (you already guessed that, now didn’t you?), it’s done in Premiere. Perfect for this time of year, when you want sleeves to keep your arms warm, but lightweight enough to stay cool during a walk in the spring sunshine.

though the winds may blow…

March is certainly coming in like a lion! We’ll be here until 7:00 as usual, and we’re hoping the weather resolves itself and moves on, so we can have Knit Night. If you’re able to brave the elements, you’ll get to see

  • new patterns from K1C2 for Wick and Cottonade;
  • the new Nashua Ecologie Cotton — naturally dyed pima cotton in soft, earthy shades;
  • the shipment from Rowan that just came in — more 4 Ply Soft, Kidsilk Haze, Cashsoft DK and Calmer. I think there’s a new book in there too.

For those of you who ordered bags from the Jordana Paige trunk show — they’re here!

what’s new Wednesday

Here’s a quick look at what’s come in this week:

Nashua’s North American Designers Collection #4, with cover sweater created by my favorite designer, Natalie Wilson. It’s made out of Cilantro.

Top Seed Cotton from Reynolds — 18 glorious colors! It’s a mercerized, cabled cotton, knits at 5 to 5 1/2 stitches to the inch and comes with these really pretty designs. We have a model of the turquoise cardigan on display.

Cotton Tweed, a new yarn from Cabin Fever. It’s a cotton and acrylic blend, perfect for these cute little sweaters. The ladies at Cabin Fever specialize in top down seamless designs, and these children’s cardigans don’t vary from the specialty. One works up at 5 1/2 stitches to the inch, the other pattern at 5 to the inch.

Speaking of top down designs, the newest book from Doreen Marquart, of Saturday Sweaters fame, is a book of top down sweaters for adults. Very nice indeed.

Don’t forget that tomorrow is Knit Night, from 5 to 7. Join the fun!

at long last

Our own sock class on DVD

It’s ready! We have just a few copies of the Yarn Expressions sock video, but more will be on the shelf by the end of the week. We’ve switched to DVD format because that’s what most people have asked for. We’ll take special orders for anyone who would prefer a VHS tape. Either format is still just $20.

a neverending parade of boxes

February's new yarn

Look at all this new yarn that’s come in during the past week! We’re scurrying to make space for it all, but some of it is still in boxes. Here’s the rundown:
  1. Jean nee by Plymouth, soft cotton and acrylic blend. We have three denim shades in stock right now, with three or four other colors on their way. You can just see the neck of the model photo peeking from beneath the pile of yarn. It’s a child’s v-neck pullover done in ecru, green, orange and blue. We have the model and the pattern on hand.
  2. Love It by Berroco, a matte cotton/acrylic blend with a bit of lycra to give it stretch. Take a look at the great pattern support Berroco has provided. This book and a model are in the store.
  3. Nostalgia by Berroco, yet another cotton/acrylic blend, this one with a little shine to it. Again, their pattern support is fantastic.
  4. Melody by Jojoland, a fingering weight wool that has a very slow drift color change. It makes spectacular socks, but it needs hand washing. We have four lovely colors on hand.
  5. Touche by Berroco, more cottony goodness, this time blended with rayon for Spring knitting. This yarn is lightweight and easy to knit, and gives good stitch definition. Just right for textured knitting.
  6. Gems Merino by Louet. Compatible with Koigu, it gives us affordable solid shades of fingering weight merino. We have a few shades on hand now, with more to come soon. It’s soooo soft!
  7. Shire Silk by Plymouth, a textured raw silk yarn knitting at 4 1/2 stitches to the inch. We have a pattern for a cute textured vest made from this yarn that’s been flying off the shelf ever since it arrived.
  8. Euroflax Linen by Louet, in both sport and worsted weights. We’ve had so many requests for this yarn, mostly to make hand towels a la Mason-Dixon Knitting, that I just had to buy some. I’ll admit knitting with it takes some getting used to, but once you’ve washed the fabric, you’ll come back for more, I promise!
  9. New shades of Royal Bamboo by Plymouth, a favorite from last year. Bamboo fiber continues to be extremely popular and this particular yarn is pleasing to the eye, to the hand and to the pocketbook.
  10. Bonsai by Berroco. More bamboo, this time a ribbon, wrapped with a thin strand of nylon to give it a bit of texture. Shiny and soft, we received this sweater model — come see it!
  11. Last but not least is Bamboo Garden by Plymouth, a textured, multi color bamboo and cotton blend that’s selling like hotcakes! This is a yarn that you let do all the talking by just making a simple shell or tank top.

I have more pictures to share, but I’ll save them for tomorrow.

Neither sleet nor snow nor dark of night will stop Knit Night

Will it really be bad?

It’s hard to tell what the weather is really going to be like tomorrow when we wake up, but unless the roads are impassable, we’ll be open. They’re saying that whatever might stick to the roads in the morning will all be rained out by early afternoon, so Knit Night is on as of right now. And do we have stuff to show you! But first things first.

Kim

Remember Kim from Sunday? Kim whose picture I botched? This is Kim. I said she was pretty, didn’t I?

luxury 5

Here’s a little teaser for you — Lantern Moon’s new luxury double points are in in most sizes 0 through 5. We have just a few rosewoods and most sizes of ebony and blondewood. They are divine!

If this is Thursday, it must be Knit Night

Time to knit from your stash, folks. From the number of phone calls and e-mails I’ve received this week, I’d say we’re going to have a lively group tonight. And if Thursday night’s not enough for you, come back for the expanded version, on Sunday afternoon at 1:00. Just the way to spend a cold, blustery afternoon — knitting with friends new and old.
Two Stix knitting bags more Two Stix knitting bags Look at these cute bags that just came in. They’re handmade by a small company in nearby Decatur, GA called Two Stix. Made from fulled commercial material that’s been liberally embellished, the bag is suspended from a pair of #15 rosewood needles and completed with a nifty wavy handle. Perfect Valentine’s Day gifts.

See you tonight!
