Neither sleet nor snow nor dark of night will stop Knit Night

Will it really be bad?

It’s hard to tell what the weather is really going to be like tomorrow when we wake up, but unless the roads are impassable, we’ll be open. They’re saying that whatever might stick to the roads in the morning will all be rained out by early afternoon, so Knit Night is on as of right now. And do we have stuff to show you! But first things first.

Kim

Remember Kim from Sunday? Kim whose picture I botched? This is Kim. I said she was pretty, didn’t I?

luxury 5

Here’s a little teaser for you — Lantern Moon’s new luxury double points are in in most sizes 0 through 5. We have just a few rosewoods and most sizes of ebony and blondewood. They are divine!

If this is Thursday, it must be Knit Night

Time to knit from your stash, folks. From the number of phone calls and e-mails I’ve received this week, I’d say we’re going to have a lively group tonight. And if Thursday night’s not enough for you, come back for the expanded version, on Sunday afternoon at 1:00. Just the way to spend a cold, blustery afternoon — knitting with friends new and old.
Two Stix knitting bags more Two Stix knitting bags Look at these cute bags that just came in. They’re handmade by a small company in nearby Decatur, GA called Two Stix. Made from fulled commercial material that’s been liberally embellished, the bag is suspended from a pair of #15 rosewood needles and completed with a nifty wavy handle. Perfect Valentine’s Day gifts.

See you tonight!

lookie, lookie

Pictures!

Tofutsies! Here’s our basket of Tofutsies, the new sock yarn from Southwest Trading Company. At the moment we have all 15 colors they make, but it’s selling fast. I really enjoyed working with the little sample the company sent me late last year.

Look at this display of wool top dyed by Lorna’s Laces!Lorna's Laces Wool Top I love all of these colors. As we were sitting at the table yesterday, contemplating the loveliness, Jill piped up and said, “wouldn’t it be fun to spin up two different colorways and ply them together?” My mind is swimming with the possibilities.

I have new fun planned for us next week, so check back here on Sunday for the announcement. Happy weekend!

Already!

I’ve only been home a day, and already the new merchandise is coming in.  Today’s arrivals are Tofutsies sock yarn from Southwest Trading Company, and wool top for spinning from Lorna’s Laces.  Of course these arrived on the day I left my camera at home.  Pictures tomorrow, I promise.  Along with a continuation of the market saga.  I found so many neat things to share with you…

Greetings from San Diego!

This is a reminder for those of you who might be thinking about showing up at the store this Thursday night after 5:00 — don’t. I’m gone so we’ll be closing at 5. We’ll be back to the regular schedule next week.

This afternoon I talked to Donna, who’s doing an admirable job of holding down the fort while I’m gone, with plenty of assistance from Jill and Kim. She says that the needles I ordered before I left have arrived, so if you’re waiting for needles, come and get ‘em. I also talked to Southwest Trading Company, who says they’re shipping our order of Tofutsies today. This is their incredible new sock yarn, a blend of wool, soy silk and chitin (pronounced kite-in), a product of shrimp and crab shells which offers antibacterial protection. I’ve knitted a few rows with this nifty new fiber, and really like it. If it arrives before I get home, save some for me, okay?

Mom and I have been having a wonderful time in San Diego. The weather has cooperated for once and it’s been great having this time together to catch up. I envy those of you who live close to your family — my family is scattered to the four winds, and no matter how frequently we see each other, it’s never often enough. Mom leaves tomorrow morning, so I’m going to go back to enjoying her company now. Look for another update later in the weekend when I’ve been bowled over by all the new offerings at market. Thanks for all the suggestions of things to look for — y’all are going to keep me hopping this weekend!

New Books

It’s here! The new Knits from a Painter’s Palette from Koigu Wool Designs has arrived. Maie Landra is a creative genius known for her modular designs and wonderful sense of color.new books!

There are some old favorites in here, like the Oriental Jacket and the Charlotte’s Web Shawl, and some new designs to get your fingers itching to knit this year.

We’ve also received Nicky Epstein’s latest — Knitting Beyond the Edge. This book continues her series of collections of decorative finishes and contains a number of intriguing ideas. She has a whole section on interesting necklines that I like very much.

Baby Knits Hats & Booties is just plain cute. Its patterns are created by three well known designers — Edie Eckman, Bonnie Franz and Debby Ware. These matching sets for noggins and tootsies (that’s the subtitle of the book) range from easy stripes to colorful argyle to the set I’m going to make called Sam the Man.

If your New Year’s resolution is to knit more, you’ll find plenty of inspiration in these books.
