Dear Reader,
In the interest of getting this newsletter in the mail before the storm raging overhead disconnects our power (over 1,000 homes on the north side of town are without electricity right now), I’ll be brief, and let pictures tell our stories.
What’s New in the Store
Christmas in July
Boxes continue to arrive daily. For spinners this week, the wait is over. Abby’s Batts are here. This is “Hot Tomato”, one of nine colors currently in stock. You can see samples of all nine batts on our website.
This week also brought us a box of patterns from designer Chris de Longpre, a/k/a Knitting at Knoon. I fell in love with a number of Chris’ patterns at market last month, and have plans to find yarn for Triangulation and Wrap Me Up real soon.
If you are a fan of The Yarn Harlot, you’ll know that she has a new page-a-day calendar out. Our order arrived yesterday, and we’re informed that the supply is limited. Apparently calendars don’t go into re-print, so what’s in the warehouse is all that’s available. Get ‘em while they last.
I neglected to snap a photo of the newest sock yarn to arrive, but you’ll want to come see it. Locally produced by Fire Lizard Studios, we have sock pairs in superwash/nylon blend and superwash/bamboo/nylon blends. It’s such a treat to have yarn from local artisans at the store — thanks, Cara!
What We’re Working On
Same Ol’ Same Ol’
What We’re Working On is on hiatus this week — mostly because there’s nothing new to show you. I need to hurry up and finish something, don’t I?
What You’re Working On
Thanks for Sharing!
You, unlike me, have been knitting and finishing things. Good for you! Here’s Robin, with a bag she made using yarn she spun from some Mountain Colors hand painted Targhee wool in color Chinook. She separated out the colors into light and dark shades, to produce this hobo bag (Oat Couture pattern EK712) with contrasting sides. She had enough yarn left over to make this cute hat from Homespun Handknit.
Bettie has babies to knit for, and she chose Berroco’s Comfort for the traditional feather and fan blanket she just finished for a new young miss of her acquaintance. Bettie says she’s already hard at work on the next one, which will be in white. Such lucky babies!

What’s Going On Around Here
Spinning Group Takes Off
Ten people showed up Monday night for the first meeting of Yarn Expressions’ spinning group. We had spindles, we had wheels, we had wool, we had cotton, we had silk. Several new spinners came to learn or re-learn the basics. I had the pleasure of being a student this time, when Melissa taught me how to Andean ply.
Our next get-together will be Monday, July 21. All are welcome, beginning at 4:00.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this look at what’s going on at Yarn Expressions this week. Next week’s newsletter should be a little less rushed, I promise!
Sincerely,
and all the crew at Yarn Expressions
