Dear Reader,
Did you miss me? Computer problems caused the lost newsletter last week. This week we’ll cut right to the chase, because there’s lots to show.
What’s New in the Store
Lots of pictures to share, lots of new yarn to knit. First up are Crazy 8 Sock Kits from Crystal Palace. They feature six different colors of yarn, a pattern for a striped sock in adult and children’s sizes and needles. There are two colors each in Panda Soy, Panda Wool, Panda Silk and Panda Cotton. We have all eight colors on hand right now.
Remember Mooi? That luscious blend of bison, cashmere and bamboo all spun up into an ethereal laceweight yarn? Two new colors just arrived yesterday — azure blue and aqua. Don’t forget to ask for the free pattern for the two skein shawl.
More sock yarn arrived the other day. This is the much anticipated Ty Dy Socks from K1C2. They’ve taken the six most popular shades of Ty Dy cotton and translated them to fingering weight wool. Oh my, are they lovely! One skein will make a pair of socks.
My favorite new yarn of the season showed up on our doorstep earlier this week. Minnow Merino by Jil Eaton, a new division of Classic Elite. This is a soft, single ply, worsted weight merino (similar in feel to Malabrigo) that’s superwash. Yes, that’s right. It’s machine washable. With its bright, cheerful palette and its snuggly feel, it’s definitely aimed at clothes for youngsters of all ages. We have all colors in stock and a variety of patterns specially designed for this new yarn.
What’s Being Spun
In the last newsletter I mentioned the article in Knitty about repurposing your spinning stash. I’ve spent the past two weeks playing with fiber, and Jill and I have been making batts out of some mighty strange stuff we’ve found in our respective stashes. This one was made from the fibers pictured in the last newsletter.
Our spinning group meets on Monday, the 29th, and I’m going to bring my drum carder. If you’d like to see batt-making in action, stop by between 4:00 and 7:00. If there’s enough interest, maybe we can have a batt making party next time.
By Monday we should have our shipment of dyed roving from The Scarlet Fleece. I don’t remember exactly what colors I ordered, but I do remember being quite impressed with their fibers. We may also have more of Abby Franquemont’s batts on hand by Monday. This will be our final shipment of the year, as Abby’s speaking, teaching and writing schedule will keep her occupied through the holidays. She’s promised that it’s an XL package, so there should be enough to go around. At least for a while.
What You’re Working On
Will you look at these cutie-pie purses? Wendy loves felting and is always looking for new ideas for her favorite craft. She used Cascade 220, Taos and Kureyon for these three bags.

L to R they are Cascade 220 #9445 and Taos #21, Cascade 220 #9447 and Taos #24, and Cascade 220 #9420 and Kureyon #182. Great job, Wendy!
What’s Going On Around Here
I had an e-mail from Franklin Habit last week, telling me that his book, It Itches, will be out earlier than expected. That’s good news for us, because it makes our event on Saturday, October 11 both last and first. It’s the last public shoot of the 1000 Knitters Project, and the first book signing for It Itches.
We’re opening that day at 10:00 so there’ll be plenty of time for the picture taking. As soon as the photos are done (we’re guessing that will be around 3:30), Franklin will don his author’s cap and quill, and the book signing will commence.
You won’t want to miss a chance to meet this charming and talented writer/photographer/cartoonist/knitter/blogger. We’ll have plenty of books on hand, so stop by in the afternoon. And of course, bring your knitting.
What’s In the Works
In the next couple of weeks, we’re expecting shipments from:
That’s it from me for now. Until next week, enjoy your knitting!
Sincerely,
and all the crew at Yarn Expressions
